Catherine McCollor was born in St. Georges, Quebec, Canada, to Patrick and Bridget
McCollough/McCollor, on February 5th, 1825. She was the fifth child born to them, and the second daughter. When she was less than a year old, the
family moved back to Maine, one of many moves between Canada and Maine, as detailed in the Patrick McCollor page of this site. Catherine was in her
early twenties when her mother's died in 1848. They stayed in Canada another three years before her father moved moved the
family back to Maine for the last time. With quite a few younger siblings to take care of, we imagine that Catherine
was invaluable to her father in the years after her mother's death. Perhaps that is why she did not marry until she was almost
thirty yeas old, which was uncommonly "old" in those days.
She married October 10, 1854, at the age of 29, to Charles McCarthy, a man more than
seven years her junior. They were married in St. Georges, Canada, and moved back to Maine at some point in the next year or
two as their first child, Bridget, was born 1955 or 56 (discrepancy*). They became farmers, and lived just east of Solon, Maine, where they had a total
of eight children. They lived relatively long lives, she died at the age of 77 January 13, 1902, and he followed her to the
grave two years later, May 15, 1904. They lived in Solon all the years of their marriage, and are buried together in
Evergreen Cemetery, a little south of town.

to SETH L. GORDON. Research Note: Messiah's draft registration (WWI) card
lists his occupation as a "dress attender 21" and living in Skowhegan. Filled out in 1917, He is also listed as
a widower with one child, medium height and slim build, gray eyes, dark brown(?) hair. The child, Inez, is not listed as living
with Messiah (Lewis) in the 1920 census, which shows Lewis back at home living with his parents and working in a woolen
mill. In the 1930 census he has remarried,
living in Camden, and Mary's little sister Maxine is living with them. No child is mentioned in this census, leading me to
wonder if Inez was raised elsewhere and there was a second child born after 1930.
