McCollor, Jr. b. __/__/1835 (or 37?) in Ireland, dau. of __? d. 9/25/1888 at ___? Buried Evergreen
Cemetery. RESEARCH NOTE: The 1835 birthdate is as recorded in her son's
death certificate, however, the 1880 US Census lists her birthdate as around 1837. It is also unknown if she was in fact born
in Ireland as the census states her father was born in Ireland but her mother was born in Maine.

BIOGRAPHY Patrick McCollor was born October
23, 1826, at Madison, Maine, the sixth child of Patrick
and Bridget McCollor. He was about twelve years old the year his mother
died. His family was living in Canada at the time, and
two years later moved back to Maine for good. Patrick, as many of the men in his
family had, became a farmer in Solon, Maine. Many of Patrick's brothers enlisted in the Civil War in 1862, however, we have no
record of Patrick having done so. It is assumed that he
continued farming during those years. Possibly I have erroneous records regarding Patrick's marriages. Somewhere I
got that on 8/15/1840 (he was about 14) in Industry, ME, he married a first cousin. If anyone can clarify
this please EMAIL me Patrick married his
first (or second?) wife, Catherine Lacy (Leacy?) on November 3, 1856, at
South Solon by the Town Clerk. Catherine was born in 1835 in Ireland,
however, we do not know her parent's names, nor do we know what part of Ireland she came
from. They had seven children together, and she died in September 25, 1888 at the age
of about 53. Her son, young Martin, had died just
a few months earlier, and the youngest child, Lucy, died a few months
later. A year later Mary Ellen dies. This string of deaths must have been very difficult
for the family... I don't have any causes of death, TB, perhaps? In 1870, Patrick's brother
James was living with Patrick and Catherine in Bingham. James, still a bachelor,
had moved in with Patrick's family upon his return from the Civil War, and married (and presumably
moved out) in 1870. Six years later, James would
die in a fire in Chicago. Both men are listed as farmers.

RESEARCH NOTES: - (see CEMETERY PROJECT) Mary Ellen's stone located in her family plot seems to read 1896 as a death date, not 1890. It's believed she is
not buried here, but in another cemetery and this stone is in memorium.
- In-laws Phillip & Mary are buried at the Bingham
Village Cemetery.
- Michael had a marriage previous to his with Mary Ellen; to MARIA BROPHY. Michael was
buried alongside Maria. See photos of their grave markers at link above.
- In the 1880 census I found a birth date for who I believe
to be Mary, "Mary McCollor" born about 1855 (census records
were sometimes the takers "guesses") in Solon of both parents born in Canada, working as a servant in the household
of 20 year old "Hotel Keeper" JOEL H. GRAY. In the same
household is listed Joel's widowed mother ELVIRA H. GRAY, and a few other
servants. Marrying fairly late (for the times) it would make sense she might be in service to
support herself as a young woman. Perhaps someone can confirm this is our Mary?

RESEARCH
NOTES - Dennis's trade was that
of Carpenter at a woolen mill and in 1930 a Mill Wright at a wood pulp mill.
- Annie immigrated from canada in 1894. She was about 13 years his junior. She is buried
at Hills Cemetery in Madison, ME.
- 1885 Census of Roseville Township, MN shows Dennis
living with his Uncle Peter McCollor. Perhaps the 15 year old felt a need for adventure? He returned
to Maine sometime before his marriage in 1897.
- 1910 census is barely legible. It lists Dennis as head, at 49 and Annie at 37. 1 yr
old Alice is with them and listed as daughter.
- 1920 census shows
them living in Madison, ME with 10 year old daughter ALICE
and a boarder: JAMES YOUNG.
- 1930
census still in Madison, two women residing with them: ALICE YOUNG (Believed
to be Annie's sister, who perhaps married boarder James Young (James is not listed
here, Alice is listed as widowed), and MABEL ROBINSON,
a widowed 51 year old "roomer" who interestingly was a nurse with The Red Cross,
and whose father is listed as "born at sea".
ADOPTED by
Dennis and Annie. b. __/__/1910 at
? Some records give Massachusetts as a birth state,
however the 1930 census gives Maine. A ancestery.com Weeks family tree lists Alice's birth place as Madison, ME.

unusual for the times. d. 7/19/1983 in Madison, at the
